Bill Cowperthwaite, Chairman of the Board

Bill Cowperthwaite is a well-recognized business leader and co-founder of Human Resource Systems Group Ltd. In addition to founding two Canadian companies, he is a Founding Member and former Secretary and President of the Orleans Chamber of Commerce. He has served as an advisor to over 40 small businesses in Canada's National Capital region, as well as provided consultancy and advisory services for both technical and human resource management projects.

Mr. Cowperthwaite served as a officer in the Canadian Armed Forces until 1987 holding several progressively responsible positions in NATO, the UN, as well as Canadian and US military units. During his military career he held several Command posts, including serving in peace-keeping and security operations in overseas assignments on behalf of Canada. He also established the requirements for a $1B military communications procurement project and represented both Canadian military and commercial interests in a diplomatic post to the United States Army, Communication Electronics Research and Development Command.

Suzanne Simpson, President

Dr. Simpson is a registered Industrial / Organizational Psychologist. Her focus throughout her thirty-five year career has been on developing and implementing Talent Management systems that propel organizations to higher levels of success and encourage respectful and welcoming work environments. She has managed and supported many organizations as well as whole occupational sectors in defining competency frameworks and in developing and implementing competency-based talent management products, programs, processes and assessment systems.

She is well recognized by her peers in Industrial Psychology in Canada and sought after around the world as a speaker and facilitator on the topic of Competency-based Talent Management. As an entrepreneur and business owner, the Women's Business Network recognized Suzanne as a finalist for the title of Business Woman of the Year (2007).

Lorraine McKay, VP Business Development

Lorraine has over 20 years experience as a human resources practitioner in a wide variety of practice areas, and is particularly well known for her expertise and extensive experience in developing competency-based human resource management programs and tools, such as self-assessment and multi-rater feedback systems, competency-based interviewing, competency-based human resource planning and development, and job evaluation systems.

Much of Lorraine's work involves the design, facilitation and delivery of training courses and programs to managers and HR professionals. She delivers extensive briefing to conferences and in the context of workshops and facilitated discussion sessions. Lorraine regularly teaches two courses as part of the CHRP designation offered through Algonquin College and Carleton University, these being Personnel Selection and Human Resource Planning.

Britta Humphrey, VP Product Management

Britta has over 30 years experience as a manager in both private sector and publicly funded organizations. She had managed staff groups from 5 - 50 and been responsible for all aspects of management from day-to-day operations to strategic planning.  She has managed complex projects in a wide variety of organizations both as a manager and as a consultant.

Britta is currently responsible for coordinating the development of our web-based Talent Management Suite and has managed the design and development of these products from inception to the current offering.

Susan Haywood, Director Professional Services

Susan Haywood is a human resources professional with over 13 years of experience managing in government, not-for-profit, and corporate environments.  Her professional experience includes serving as a Health Care Administrator in the Canadian Armed Forces, and evolved to include work as a Regional Human Resources Manager with a Fortune 500 Company. Ms. Haywood has a diverse background including work in manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, and municipal government. She has an in-depth knowledge of HR practices and hands-on experience implementing competency-based HR systems, covering all areas of HR, including performance management, leadership development, and selection and recruitment.  With her background in labour relations, Ms. Haywood has served as a Chief Negotiator for several rounds of collective bargaining, and has represented employers at provincial and federal arbitration hearings.

Susan currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Human Resource Professionals Association as well as the Strategic Planning Committee of the Ottawa Humane Society. 

As the Director of Professional Services, Susan manages a team of consultants and associates and oversees the delivery of projects according to HRSG high standards.

Paul Skinner, Chief - Technical Services

Mr. Skinner is currently the Chief of Technical Services for HRSG. He has over ten years experience in IT, working as a senior programmer/analyst since 1999. He has extensive experience working with web protocol and application interfaces which include HTML, ASP, SQL Programming, Microsoft SQL Server, TCP/IP, ActiveX, OLE, DAO/ADO/SQL, COM, ASP, PHP, MySQL, and Oracle. He has been the primary developer for several government on-line initiatives, such as the current web site for the Software Human Resource Council.

Mr. Skinner brings with him a wide range of understanding with regards to hardware/software installation, networking configuration, Windows architecture, and quality assurance testing.

Michael Kelly, CFO

Mr. Kelly has more than twenty five years of financial and strategic business planning and operational management experience in the technology sector with both start-up and multi-national corporations. As Chief Financial Officer, he has successfully concluded numerous financing rounds and capital market transactions. Prior to joining HRSG, he was the Chief Financial Officer for FirstHand Technologies followed by Gridpoint Systems. Previously held positions include CFO at Spacebridge Semiconductor and AVP, Business Portfolio Management with Newbridge Networks. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Rainer Paduch, VP Sales & Marketing

Rainer is building HRSG's sales and marketing infrasructure to support worldwide operations.  In past, Rainer has been dedicated to reducing early stage funding risk and improving investor experiences. Rainer is co-founder of the Ottawa Angel Alliance and a Band of Scoundrels founder (Ottawa-based Angel groups) and is the Chairman of three investee companies: Recognia and Kibboko as well as a Director of HR Systems Group and Toronto Venture listed Intouch Survey Systems.

Rainer was also a venture partner at Novacap, a Montreal based venture capital firm investing in early stage technology start-ups and later stage operating companies. Prior to that, he was founder of iSTAR Internet Inc., successfully leading through rapid growth to IPO. Rainer also has held senior positions with such leading companies as Fonorola, Newbridge, Mitel, Systemhouse and Canadian Marconi.  Rainer earned a B. Eng (Honours) and M. Eng from  McGill University.
